Default repost for the day crew. trying to figure out if I have the right radiator

the radiator German Auto sent me has the exact same mounting points but the core is a full 1/4" thinner than the old radiator. Does anybody know if that's a proper replacement or just the wrong piece? The car is a 98 A4 Tq manual. German Auto is checking into it but I've got the car in pieces and need to know if I can put this thing back together or not. Thanks.

Default Sounds like a superceded part with a more efficient core

was there a switch from brass to aluminum at some point in the past? I cant imagine that if everything else looks right ( upper and lower coolant hoses and mounting points - no tip trany fluid coolant connections) that it is the wrong radiator.
