overspinning can cause too much heat buildup which will melt blade tips.

Default what would cause overspinning,,the really looked like something hit them,,

The whole thing stinks like foul play.

Default while I wouldn't rule out a foreign object hitting the blades...

overspinning can be caused by boost leaks or a bad wastegate. Are only the cold-side blades damaged? What do the exhaust-side blades look like?

Default Exhaust side or compressor?

Overspinning can be caused by a boost leak and the turbo trying to overcome the losses or by the software not dropping requested boost sufficiently in the upper revs.

Default 1st thank for chatting cause I am freaking,,no damage to the exhaust side,,,,

the reason we opened the car up is because of the wastegate actuator, the rod had a lot of play, we figured it had gone south. but looking at the blades, they seriously look shreaded (very rough and shiney) not melted or bent but I wish someone could tell me how an object could have gotten in there other then someone putting it in there.

if the wastegate rod had lots of play in it you may already have your answer.

air slamming into the turbine wheel can cause damage if BPV and wastegate etc don't work in concert
