So my buddy got the WRX....
First of all it's not as bad lookin as i originally thought, but its not even close in overall quality as the A4. The best thing about it though, is that the dealer installs a turbo timer and basically does their version of chipping the turbo under WARRANTY. Thats right all work is performed under warranty, and it's actually a package you can buy from the dealer....holy shiznit!! Wake up AOA.

never happen...
not with current engine packages anyway. If dealers chipped 1.8Ts, which basically matches (or beats, depending on the chip) the 2.8, their sales of the 2.8 would drop significantly.

I disagree...
Most people buy the V6 because of the perception of more power and because it's more luxury oriented. Also, while folks on this board know much about the differences, most buyers probably wouldn't know, and always assume bigger engine is better.
You have to keep in mind that everyone here who mods their car is just a small percentage of A4 buyers. I think the impact of sales dropping wouldn't be as significant as you think.

I disagree with that.........
most people who have driven the revised 1.8t have been pleasantly surprised with the output - if Audi were to offer an even more powerful 1.8t option, I think a test drive would be all that was needed to convince prospective 2.8 owners where the value lies.

There is still some left over stigma against turbos...
I remember when I told my dad that I was getting a turbocharged engine, he was quick to point out all of the extra maintenance there would be, and that he would never get one for that reason.
Also, Audi's V6 is a great engine, very smooth and quiet with good response.
Finally, I personally prefer the 2.8's trim package of wood/chrome vs. carbon-look/black, but to each their own. I still got the 1.8 for, ahem, financial considerations
