Default SplitSec 1.8T BCS (Boost Controller)

Has anyone had any experience with using SplitSec's boost controller?

I am about to purchase a 2001 A4 1.8t and was
looking for things I could do to tune it that
would not mess up my warrantee (and not be too
expensive- like getting a new ECU).

I called SplitSec and they told me that the 2001
A4 ECU has different mappings (or something?) and
that they should be done in the next couple of
weeks.

Has anyone used this box?

Are there other boxes I should check out? Is the
product from Greddy similar? It seems more
invasive...

Is this box compatible with my factory warrantee?

Let me know,

Default Buy a real tuner chip. If warranty issues concern you, buy a spare ECU or a...

socketed chip. The best advice, however, is to get your car serviced at a dealer that is more "understanding" and will work with you. This may not be possible where you are located, but it's worth a try. Competition among dealers in most major metropolitan areas usually means that at least one will want to court the performance minded buyers.

Default But....

I will be moving around the country... even if I find a good dealer where I am now, there's no telling what might happen a couple months from now.

Also, the spare ECU and chipped ECU combo is costly and the BCS only costs $250. Look at the data on it... 30% torque increase at the wheels... has anyone tried this thing?

Default I thought about trying it because I don't want to mess up with the ECU...

on my 2001 1.8T, but I think most people here will tell you that it's not a good idea. But there is a good review of it in European Car (last month I think). I think the best is to get a chip, but maybe a BCS is not THAT bad??

Default the review is what is coined as an "Advertorial"

The game magazines and advertisers play.
They usually give the first and final draft to the advertiser for "corrections"

Default Not a goo idea because...

...simply increasing the boost without proper fuel management is not a good idea. A tuned ECU doesn't just increase boost. It also alters the fuel map, adjust timing and other what-nots. Simply "tricking" the ECU is not enough to tune an engine. Remember that the engine is a sum of its components and they are system or working parts.

By the way, check the archives. The collective has had to explain this to other neophytes recently.
