stalling

I have a 96 2.8QM and recently, it has had a stalling problem. When I come to a stop, the rpms just drop and the car stalls. I thought that maybe I had too many things running at the same time (radio, seat heater, heater) but when I turned these off, the car still stalled.

I thought it was a bad tank of gas so I re-filled with high octane but it didn't seem to help.

This doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it occurs several times in a row.

Any ideas?? Is my timing off? Do I need to have the idle speed adjusted?

Thanks Bob... can you give me a few more details??? Is this a recall problem?? Is it a complex thing to repair/replace (in other words, is it going to cost me a fortune!!)

Any help would be appreciated!

Unfortunately, it is not a recall problem. Audi has had issues with their IAC/ISV since the early 80's. They tend to get carboned up. If you feel adventurous, you can remove the valve and clean it out with Techron or WD40. Typically the valves last 2-4 years. When they start to go, you will have idle problems sporatically, and will get worse with time. I've had my valve replaced twice on my 96. Audi's design has not changed since then.

Search the archive, because I remember that someone posted a picture and instructions.
