Default T-28 Progress and Question

I've finally gone and done it. Last time I was uncertain on if I should buy a PES T-28 and then do a Level 10 Hydrosystem upgrade on the TipTronic transmission, or whether I should do it vice versa. I've decided to do both, as I am buying a used PES T-28 kit with <5K miles on it. But, as usual there's a question accompanying it (or two)...

The owner says that the PES chip is made for a socketed ECU? I currently have an MTM Stage 1 chip in my ECU...do I have to have it removed, and/or send the ECU in to PES to have the other chip installed? I know I will have to buy the $300 Tipchip from PES anyhow...

Second, anybody in Denver have the kit currently? If so, I was wondering where you had it installed. I've been to both Paragon Tuning and Autosport Werks, and I've liked them both..although I'd probably return to Autosport Werks for the T-28 install (and definitely for the tiptronic upgrade). I'm open to commentary on that as well.

Lastly, the article in European Car I read that reviewed the PES Passat (w/ T-28) said that PES is developing its own FMIC and it should be ready by the time I read the article...I read the article last week, there's no FMIC yet. Anybody know anything about that? I'd like the FMIC. Also, is the $750 race cat street legal and how does it do with the system?

Thanks a bunch, sorry for the bombardment of questions.

Default I dont know anything about the kit at all. But how much will autosport werks charge for the install?

My experience with autosport werks is that they charge way too much $$$ for work.

Default Speaking from experience

and the first to do it
I did the leventen upgrade a few months after I had the kit installed. The kit was installed in early October and the levelten (torque convertor + hydrosystem services) were completed late December.

In terms of your ECU... you will have to have it socketed to use the PES chip.

For a FMIC, I had mine installed when I got the T-28 put in (its an EVO). PES did a really great job installing it.. you don't even know its there behind the stock bumper.

Lastly, racecat ... uhm.. I'm in the same dilemma. I dont know if I will go for it.. at least not just yet. You will probably lose more low end torque and we need all the low end we can we our Auto trannys. If you want to go that route first... let me know how it works The top-end will definately gain, but I'm afraid about how the low end will suffer.

If you have any more questions shoot me an email or aim me (g8keepR007).

Default Re: T-28 Progress and Question

I'd stay away from Paragon, and most definitely go back to ASW.

Default I'm in FT Collins and there is a place called metric methodz that does great work for

not a lot of $. I am getting an apr stage3 kit installed there next week. Do you ever go to bandimere? We should go there early on test and tune night so we can get some pes vs apr action. Seriously consider metric methodz. About an hour away from where you are.

Default Call ASW and ask

I'm sure it's not going to be cheap, but these guys appear to REALLY be professional. A friend of mine does some work there on occasion, and I was this -> <- close to taking my big RWHP supra there for some dyno tuning time.

Very nice, knowledgable guys. Once I get the A4 and need some work done which I can't do myself, they will get my car/checkbook/etc.
