Tested a Sentra Spec V

Tested a Sentra Spec V
Sorry for the OT post, but I just wanted to mention that Nissan's high-end Sentra is one of the more lively rides I've driven in the past two years (I test cars for our local newspaper here). Right-now throttle response, tons of twist and hang-on-to-your-hat acceleration for a non-boosted four-banger, tightly dialed-in steering with instant response and tons of amusing torque steer. One of the most frantically entertaining under-$25,000 cars on the market.

I was hoping for something a little more powerful than 170hp for the protege
I'm sure it's going to be quick either way, but an even 200 would make it a killer car. Excellent handling (I don't think most people understand how well set up the suspension is). 170hp seems to lack a little. Though a factory FI car means tons of easy aftermarket equipment...particularilly if mazdaspeed tuning stuff is brought through dealers. Nice little car.

I saw a truck with 3 of those when I was in Chicago last week....
do they only coem in that orange color? They do look pretty sweet, but I really can't wait to see what the EVO is all about.

saw one last week at the cvo auto-x
w/ a nice huuuuge exhaust, and some muegen seat belt pads. very ricey. my question is, why do they have to put the se-R badges all over the place? i think there's like 4 or 5 of them on the car. can we say excessive?

I think Nissan has a firm grasp of its typical customer
The Spec V is the perfect blank canvas for the ricer's brush, so to speak. The factory detialings are a little, shall we say, tacky? But there's no accounting for taste, and this car is aimed at the ricer crowd. I didn't check, but there might even be a factory-installed NOS bottle bracket in the trunk. %^)

easily the best handling small car in the country...i agree with you on power...
but rumor has it that you can somehow chip turbocharged cars to make more power
I am almost tempted to get a Mazdaspeed Protege...i do love those cars dearly. Would make the ultimate daily commuter.

too bad they are front drivers...would never want a 200hp+ FWD car
I hate torque steer
That is what ultimately stopped me from getting a GTI. Was thinking VR6 with a T3/4 or T04, but that would be way too much in a FWD, even with a LSD. IF they offered it with RWD I would be hanging out with all the freaks on Vortex right now
