Default Threw a CEL w/ this Code

Code 17544 Bank 1 too lean

I have noticed a slight lack of performance initially on accelleration until RPM's pick up and on occasion a jumpy idle. Yesterday while driving I threw a CEL with the code above.

What am I looking at here - a leak in the vac system somewhere? Where should I look for Bank 1?

Default I thought running lean was an indication of...

...vac leak and rich was MAF

Or is it the other way around?

Default It refers to the fuel trim setting

If there's too much air (as would occur with a vacuum leak or clogged injectors), the fuel trim has to be adjusted to increase the amount of fuel to compensate. If the fuel trim gets too high, a 'mixture too rich' code gets set.

If there's a lack of air (as would happen if the MAF was incorrectly reporting a higher air flow), the trim would be adjusted more lean. If it gets too lean, then the 'mixture too lean' code gets set.

There are other things that might cause this besides the MAF, but it's good place to start.
