Default Timing belt on 2000 A4 1.8T

I've done some searches, and discovered that the tensioner was updated on the 2000's. Does this mean I should still change the TB & water pump around 60k miles? Were TB failures directly associated with the old tensioner? Thanks

Default Just talked to my tech about this yesterday....

My '00 A4's warranty is just about up, so I was asking about getting the tb done. Dealer said that starting with the '00, the tensioner has been updated, and the life of the tb is 90K miles. I think I am going to do mine about 65K just to be safe.

And yes, the tb failures on the early A4s were due to the old tensioner design.

Default The Bentley Manual for 2000 A4 says the TB is good for

105K, personally I would never let it go that long before changing. I have alittle over 60K and when my dad gets his 911 back on the road, the car goes in for a change.

Default So when I get around to doing my TB at 60k can I put the new style tensioner on? (99.5)...

Or does the 99.5 have the updated tensioner on it?

Mine started to make noise at 48K - I changed everything, belts, went to new tensioner (this is on a 99), and water pump - turned out the noise was water pump going south. the belt still looked pretty good at 48K. Not sure I would let it go to 90K though.
