Default I probably did... still learning.

I mean just downshifting, letting the engine slowing the car down.

Default yeah, thats engine braking.....brake torquing is this......

in an automatic transmission, you can apply the brake and the throttle at the same time. this preloads the engine against the transmission, giving a better launch. THAT is very bad for the transmission, believe me, i know. as far as engine braking goes, i agree with the consensus that brake parts are much cheaper and easier to replace than engine/transmission parts. basically, only use engine braking when you are really working the car, otherwise, let the brakes do their job.

Default truckers/drivers must do it going when downhill or else you'll heat up your brakes with

continuous use and may lose it when you need it most

Default ive done it before with my DBW...........care to explain more?

where did you hear this?

if what you were saying was true then you would not be able to rev up the engine while stopped at a light with the brakes applied............

Default hot brakes fail

so, cars and trucks, on really steap grades and truckers on less, will engine brake.. b/c your brakes are dead if you ride them for long periods.
