Default URGENT HELP: Timing Belt Mark lost

I'm doing the Timing Belt job on my 1999.5 1.8T AEB at the same time the GT71R Eliminator going in.

I carefully align the timing marks on the Cam Sprocket and the other on the edge of the valve cover. I also scratched a mark on the lower Crank Sprocket aligned with the tip of the Crank bearing housing .

But for an obscure reason... the Crank Sprocket moved from the timing marks I did.

I can put it back where the mark is but I don't want to mess everything and risk to break a valve. What is the tolerance on the Timing Belt, can I just put the new TB and go to the closest tooth ?

Other questions: is the Paper Gasket for the new Water Pump is better than the Alu/Rubber OEM Gasket ? The Paper one seem to be cheaper than OEM (ECS Ultimate Kit) I don't want to redo the job again just for a fluid leak, so is it better to wait and buy a new OEM ?

Your help will be very appreciated

Thanks

Pat

Default How far is the tick off??

It shouldnt be a problem, just spin it so its back on TDC.

Make sure you get it on TDC and have the TB aligned perfectly or bad things will happen.

As for the paper gasket on the WP. I had the same thing and i was scared to put it on, but i was told it was OK. And its been OK for the past 2 months or so.

Default DON'T USE THAT GASKET! Get an OEM gasket or use RTV. Also>>>

get an OEM thermostat, don't use the Wahl. Trust me on this.

Default I just read your other post. I think you were lucky>>>

I had the same questions when I did my TB and went ahead and used the gasket that came with the kit. As soon as I got everything back together and got the system up to tempurature, the gasket failed and I had to tear everything apart again. Not fun.

It should be still fine, just make sure everything is TDC when the TB goes on.
