V1 Hard Wire Install via Sunroof/Dome Light Power
I had my V1 hard wired in my Jetta using power from the sunroof/dome light controls. I haven’t seen anybody describe a similar install on an A4, though I assumed it was possible.
I prefer this method of hard wiring because it doesn’t involve playing around in the fuse box or removing the A-pillar trim. In addition, when the install is complete, it is extremely clean. A few inches of the power cord sneak out from the sunroof/dome light control and lead directly into the unit. The cord simply flips behind the sun visor when not in use, as shown in the picture.
Hopefully the enclosed picture loads (my first attempt loading jpegs).
I've written the details of my install if anyone would like to see. There are a few pictures included in the procedure. It's a 680kb Word document; let me know if you're interested.
--jonathan

Did you use a in line fuse? (more)
Did you put in circuit protection between the dome light power source and the V1? If yes, is it hidden or acessable?
If no, its something to think about because if there is a short in the V1, the in-line fuse will catch the short, instead of the fuse at the fuse box.
Looks clean and appears to be a simple install.
Paul N

Re: V1 Hard Wire Install via Sunroof/Dome Light Power
The problem with the installation is that there is power to the dome lights even when the ignition is off. In my previous car, I hard wired to a switched circuit so the detector went on and off with the ignition. Any suggestions on what circuit to use? Also, I'd be interested in any info. on how you did the job using the dome light circuit.
