Default What the hell is the "Cam adjustment seal"???

Took the Avant in for the 30K service and was told that the tech found an oil leak around the cam adjustment seal. I've never heard of such an animal. Anybody know more about it?

Default That sounds like a big deal to me...

no wonder the service writer didn't think it would be completed when he told me.

I wish I knew I would has liked to seen that.

Default If it's what I think it is, it's the flat seal between the cam chain tensioner and the head...

seems that there is no gasket, just a little sealant to keep the oil in... Seems to be a fairly common problem on all recent Audi engines.

Default I got it back and here is what the paper work said...

Here is the exact verbage from the paperwork:

During inspection found cam adjuster seal leaking...
Removed bumper cover, loosen lock carrier, remove cams and adjuster. Removed and replaced cam adjuster seal reassembled. Vehicle operating to factory specs.

Part # 058-198-025-A Gasket set
Part # 059-198-217 Gasket set

Labor = 4.70 hours

I'm not looking forward to my warranty expiring if this is a common problem. It would have cost my $352 in labor alone.
