Default What to Look for in a 1996 A4

Hi all - I am new here and looking to suprise my fiance with a 1996 A4. The car has 79k and the asking price is $9k.

I am not a mechanic so I was wondering if any of you could give me any tips that could be useful in identifying potential problems with the front suspension, timing belt (which they cannot tell me if it has been changed), and so forth.

Thanks for you help - I hope to become a proud Auto Union owner by the end of the week!

Default You are best to ask about 96's on the 12v forum...

Some bias against them here as they can't be chipped. Still the lightest A4 tho and faster than an un-chipped turbo.

12v forum

For that price, or a grand more, why not get a '97 1.8T, w/ similar miles?

I was gonna sell my 98.5 for 9k. I think you could get at least a 97 or 98.
