My '00 1.8TQ does the same thing. I'm well into the pedal travel before the lights come on...I was almost rear ended in heavy traffic. And thought it was just my car...

Default What's the deal with the '00 Service Indicator??

I've had my new '00 A4 1.8T MS for 2 weeks now. I love it. However, one thing that bothers me is the "service" indicator in the Auto check/trip computer. When I picked up my car, it said "Service in 8100 miles"...I test drove other A4's and they all said this too. The manual says it will stay at "8100" then jump to "Service in 1200 mi" when appropriate.

Now, this is useless to me anyway....'cas I'm going in at 5000mi interverals when the time for service comes. But why does it initially read 8100mi when the service intervals are at 5000mi?
Also, at about 300mi mine switched to "Service!" (now) message...so I just reset....and it went back to "8100".

(I saw a post where someone with a '99 said there service indicator actually counted down mile by mile. And others also had probs with it coming up "Service!" much too early.)

Why is this feature included if it is incorrect? Can't Audi easily program each model's service interval seperately? What's your experience with this on the '00.

I think the first one you got was intentional. They're supposed to give your car a quick check up after like 500 miles or so...at least that's what I remember.
