wind leak noises when driving on the freeway? is this common?

Default check your window weatherstripping

the door might not be aligned properly.

how quiet should the ride be? Lexus-ish or BMW?

Lexus, BMW, and I think the new 2002 A4 has three door seals, the current A4 has two.. :-(

Default It seems dependent upon the weather; heat, cold, humidity, etc. I'm going to

"refresh" my weatherstripping with Lexol or some such material to see if I can quiet it down. I also think it's a function of age and if the car sits outside. When I bought the car used it didn't make any noises and the first owner had it in his garage when parked. After a couple of thousand of miles under my ownership and sitting in my uncovered driveway I started noticing the sounds at freeway speed (above 45 mph)....dunno

Default yes. The window frame could be adjusted independently from doors.

If you see the rubber lining protruding from the window trim that might cause the wind noise.
