Default window regulator cable

im in the process of replacing the clips on my window regulator and realized that the cable had popped off one of the pulleys...my question is, how do i get enough slack to get the cable back on all of the pulleys? thanks in advance

Default Slack in the cable...

Wow... i might be your savior! I have been thru so much with these windows, that i can disassemble the door and window complete in less than 3mins blindfolded!!!
Anyway, to your point... all you need to do is get a pair of needle-nosed pliers and slightly bend the black metal on the window guide rail at the bottom, where it holds the cable to the rail... right where the little green cylinder shaped cable-holder is below the pulley. Check out the area near #6 in this pic for the green piece im talkin about... anyway, bend the black metal so that its open enough to release the green piece. Then, you'll have all the slack you need. Adjust the pulley, and then put the green piece back where it goes and bend the metal back... be careful not to bend the metal too much too fast or you'll jeopardize the strength of it. Good luck!!!

Default Re: window regulator cable

There's very little slack in these cables to begin with. The cable winds onto a drum and must fall perfectly into place. If you rotate the motor at all after it has jumped the pulley, the cable will wind across the drum, causing kinked and frayed cables and even less slack. I managed to get mine going again, but it required pulling the rear regulator leg, taking apart the drum mechanism, unkinking the cables, and bleeding a lot. In the end, I have a semi-functional window regulator with frayed cables that will last until the replacement part comes in. If you didn't hit the switch after it jumped the pulley, there's a chance you can lever it on with channel locks. The housing stops at the motor are spring loaded and allow for at least 3/4" of extra slack to be pulled out.
