02 1.8 getting 20 mpg, does that sound right?
my girlfriend's car has been getting between 20-22 mpg. is that normal? i just replaced the spark plugs, air filter, oil and filter and cabin filter. i expected to the mmpg to improve, but its still the same. she works 1.5 miles from her house. her car does have a remote start and i know that doesnt help, but i expected her car to get better gas mileage than that. i have a 96 A6 wagon and i get the same mileage as her. btw, her car has 54k miles, tip, and no mods.

Any car will not produce "normal" fuel mileage until engine and oil are completely warm- Especially in colder weather. Driving 1.5 miles to work engine is still in "rich" mode and oil is fully warm. It usually takes around 8 miles or so to warm up properly.
I have an 02, (with extras and no cat/free flow exhaust) and I can get around 30 mpg on the hwy. with 156k. Only after it's warm.

Mine has gotten 22 the past 2 tanks. I was also wonder if something was up.
Winter gas? I drive 12 miles to work...mixed highway and back roads. (FYI..I calculated my own MPG, computer was 1 mpg higher)

Ditto that. Also, make sure Oxygen sensors are OK as they will send ECU into default mode, (which
is running rich) and really hurt your fuel mileage, (on top of that clog your cat too).
