It's up to you, I guess.
I had a 2003 on order but as soon as the 2004 order guide came out with the info about all the extras the 2004 will come with made me have serious doubts.
For me I figured I'd rather wait 2 more months and get 6-speed and Sirius from the factory. What I've heard the 5-speed is fine but it revs kind of high at highway speeds and that's what the 6-speed is supposed to help with.
I know I'm waiting for one (unless my dealer refuses to give my deposit back on the 2003, which I'm still fighting for), I have a 2004 in the factory order bank already.

Nope.
- 2004 1.8T base will not have the multi function display (it'll be part of the premium package)
- The sport package will include aluminum dash trim instead of the fiberglass one (like 2002 models used to have)
- Sport package can be ordered with either high performance summer or all season tires.
- Xenon package will be called lighting package and will include dimming mirror with compass, and auto light sensor that turns on and off the headlight as needed as well as turn them on when you lock/unlock the car to illuminate the way to the car
- Sirius and XM radio can be ordered with the Bose package as a factory installed option.
- Wheel locks can be ordered as a factory installed option.
From build week 45
- tire pressure monitor will be standard
- painted lowers will be standard
- new modular steering wheel (no idea what it means)
- new generation of airbags will be fitted.
That is pretty much it. For me the 6-speed and Sirius is what mattered to make my decision clear. The other stuff (all seasons/alu trim/lighting package) are nice but would not care about them enough by themselves to change over to the 2004. Also note that only the quattro will be getting the 6-speed tranny, the FrontTrack will have the same 5-speed tranny that it used to.
