1st to 2nd shift impossible to do smoothly
I bought a 2004 A4 Ultrasport 1.8T Quattro a few weeks ago. I have noticed that when shifting into second gear the engine takes long time to slow enough to match the rpm correctly and thus have a smooth shift. This is the case at any normal engine speed for this gear change. It seems like I have to keep the clutch out for over a full second to allow the engine to slow. It is almost like it has a huge flywheel but I am sure this is the work of the electronic throttle. Just wondering if any of you have the same experience and if the GIAC software I am getting will help at all. Thanks for your feedback.

Here is the write-up...
on resetting the electronic throttle.
Try this, see if it helps-<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/1022462.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/1022462.phtml</a</li></ul>

It took me a while to get the hang of it but its possible. I just give it a smidge of gas while
letting the clutch out for 1st to 2nd. It evens it out so it makes for a smooth shift.

the friction and clamping force required to start in 2nd eats up the tiny clutch disc
due to heat, since B6s are fat and have small discs thats no good.
trucks with bigger discs can dissipate the heat better due to mass so they can take 2nd gear starts.
clutch disc is just like brake pads, it's not the frequency that wears them down, it's the heat. thats why abrupt braking eats up pads, or small rotors/pads wear faster.
