Default Another competitor for A4 Quattro...

Just read that the MB C-class will have the 4 Matic as an option by the end of the year in Europe.

Default It is a part time system. Had better work better than last version. You could overheat pump

under heavy usage/slippage, with the car reverting to RWD.

The centre differential in the E-Class all-wheel drive system incorporates a double planetary gear set, which provides 35-65 front-rear power distribution.Thats all I know.

Default It's not the same....

The 4matic has an UNALTERABLE power split of 35:65. It also uses a transfer case that splits power then uses a second driveshaft to send power to the front of the car, vs Audi's halfshaft right out of the tranny. I can post a pic of the system tonight. It really looks like a kludge. bmw uses a similar method for driving it's xi car, but is preset to a 38:62 split.

Audi Torsen can do a range to 75:25 and 25:75 for a manual, and 67:33 33:67 for the TIP. Haldex can do 0:100 and 100:0 torque split
