Default APR's chips are really really poor

Guys-
I have to say I have been on this board since the b6's came out. Ever since the "chip wars" began APR really has gone downhill in many people's minds. They have lost key engineers over the past 4 years and it really shows in their programming. There are more complaints about CEL and major major problems with their chips than any other company. APR spread a "disinformation" campaign when the B6 came by claiming that injectors were neccessary b/c they lost the engineering edge to make a chip work!! We all now know that GIAC and Neuspeed have very very reliable chips both with many troublefree miles under their belts. out many people have lost respect for them and rightly so. I feel like with a Mechanical Engineering degree I am qualified to make that statement. Now I do have a Neuspeed chip and strongly considered their B6 product. I have a friend who bought the Stage 1+ kit and we have raced and traded cars many times and I can tell you the cars are almost equal. On the other hand I do believe the GIAC is more powerful than both even the Stage 1+ APR and there are very few bad reports about it. Just my opinion b/c I feel sorry for the almost weekly post of people with APR's chip with problems.

Default I don't have a chip (yet)..but it definitely does seem like APR chips have more problems on this

board then any other chip.

Default Agree that they have been having a lot of problems, and I wouldn't touch them now, BUT...

As for the injector issue, I would beg to differ. It is true that a few american companies offer chip-only solutions, but the majority of TUV approved companies offer BOTH chip and chip+injector programming. These American chip companies who are pushing boost and timing to make numbers similar to chip+injector solutions are walking a fine line of engine disaster IMO. Most users will not realize the downfalls of these chip only solutions, because the fuel starvation is seen at only high rpm situations. For those of us who track, I can tell you that my car has run at 6000rpms and 130mph for a full mile on a track for approximately 4 hours at a time with only brief breaks beween 50 lap sessions. The added fuel that injectors provide in high hp and torque chips is an absolute necessity in these situations. In the B5 Audis, an upgraded FPR could be bought, but our B6s have a contantly adjusting one that has limits far below what the aggressive tuner can deliver. Cheers! Mike

Default Shoot and I was just about to get APR too....

Dammit, I wanted the DPP. Is Revo better than APR? I know GIAC has DPP but they can only hold 1 program on the ECU (no switching). But I do get the feeling GIAC is pretty solid.

Default Me too; Liked it enough to have the same done to the '04 Avant...

then again, I really don't have a huge database for comparison. Local tuner(GMP Performance) is an APR dealer, so if I need something they're available.

Default I haven't heard of a whole lot of problems with GIAC over the years...

Garrett has pulled some incredible numbers out of his cars and his X-chips and J31 software is just plain insane. I just won't take the chance with it in my car, though. I had to feel confident that my equipment has been tested thoroughly by a company that can afford to outfit several cars and rent a track or build a track. The uploadable software is awfully tempting, but it's not developed enough for me and to tell you the truth I can't remember a single time I wanted to turn my chip OFF. Cheers! Mike
