The wife and I have decided that now is the time to start with the kids. Since she'll be quitting her job and being a full-time mommy when the time comes, nearly half of our income will go out the window. So... With a heavy heart we sold the A4 to my mother last weekend and picked up a '98 Cherokee in preparation for the impending cashflow crunch. We're both pretty much in the dumps about the loss of the A4 as we both LOVED it, but at least she's still got all wheel drive. And the car got to stay in the family, too. Hopefully we'll be stepping into another in a few years. 'Till then, adios!

Default It's not too bad (more)

We got 22.5 during our Thanksgiving traveling over the weekend. We only averaged 23 or so in mixed city driving in the A4. I expect to average about 18 during the same in the Jeep.

Default After the first little one arrives, you'll forget the car.

My wife and I have done what you are doing to some degree, although now she is working part time for a builder doing his books and finishing up B-school in the evenings.

As for baby stuff, there are some good books that review. I highly recommend getting a "travel system" that you can xfer the car seat from the base to the stroller. We have a Peg Perego and it is awesome, even being on the pricey end.

Good Luck, and we'll look for you again soon. That, or stick around and convince your mom to modify the car! ;-)

Wife's already looking for the car seat/stroller combo you're suggesting.

That's the one! Paperback at B&N or Borders. Will pay for itself over and over.
