Chip Questions (no, not that kind) (long)
I have a 98 GTI VR6 now and want an A4 1.8T Sport quattro with manual. The GTI has a Neuspeed chip and I've done other mods but I have no experience with turbo cars and chips. OK, now the question -
I'd like the chipped A4 to run as strong and be as fast, if not faster overall than my GTI. Yes, I love the A4 interior, yes, I love quattro and yes I know it's a heavier car. Am I going to be disappointed in the performance gains made by say a 1.5 bar chip and perhaps exhaust mods?? Thanks in advance for the help.

I think you'll be disappointed.... but first, you'd have to wait some time to even find out...
you're posting in the 2nd generation forum, so I'm assuming you're looking for a 2002 A4, for which there are no aftermarket chips yet.
And, of course, the weight difference between the two cars is quite significant. I haven't driven a VR6, but I hear it's a very capable engine in Golf. The handling will probably be better in a quattro car, but not acceleration.

98 GTI Vr6's weigh in the neighborhood of 2700 pounds from what I remember
02 A4 1.8T Quattro's weigh 3400 pounds
given similar outputs (assuming the first batch of chips only make 195hp or so) the GTI should be a <i>little</i> quicker
perhaps a "stage II" chip/exhaust combo (with the fueling part taken care of) should make ~215-230hp (and quite a lot of torque ~245lb/ft) which should be more on par with how quick the Vr6 would be
At this point this is speculation as there aren't many (if any) chips released for the 02 A4 1.8T quattro in North America
