Fan control issue
#11
A4LRB.......You've just described the situation with my car.
By the way, it doesn't matter what the outside temp is either. My car was sitting outside in 15 degree weather at night (so there is no sun to heat it up) and as soon as I started her up and the temp gauge hit normal operating temp (the needle was verticle) sure enough the fans kicked on full speed. Mind you it was at night with 15 temp and the engine was running for about 5 min. Something is definitely wrong here...

Re: summersr.......What survey? Sorry, I've been away for awhile and may have missed it.
Like you I have been frustrated with the multiple answers on how the fan is suppose to work. Got the answer when the fan controller was bad that the large fan should not come on at all unless it is real hot out. The fan controller replacement fixed the fan running at high speed when the climate control was on so I figured it was fixed. Later I noticed the fan was running at a slow speed when the climate control was on "auto". was told by Audi and the dealer that is was normal. To see what reality was I posted a request for new A4 owners to 1) let the engine reach operating temp. 2) set the temp to 68 with Auto on and 3) check what the fan was doing and post the results. Got three responses that confirmed their fans did the same as mine (Runs at slow speed when the Climate control was set to Auto). Not a large sample be at least indicated that was the way it works...the saga continues....
