Default fault codes

i've had my '03 b6 a4 1.8tq for years, but only recently got a vag-com. the below are some of the fault codes it pulled (there are others, but these seemed the most serious ones). i got vag-com because the MIL (check engine light) and EPC lit up. the EPC no longer lights up, but the MIL does. the airbag light comes on intermittently. (the last time the codes might have been cleared was a year ago, when it was last at the dealer.)

i don't really know what the below codes mean, or what it would take to fix each. can anyone offer some insight? thanks in advance!

A link to a list of the codes and some info on them. Not a perfect list, but a place to start.

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...P0471%2F001137

My understanding of the codes you noted is as follows. Also note that the ones you listed are all "intermittent" which I think means these are not what is causing the MIL to light up. anyway:

18062: telling you that you need to check the codes under the Instrument Cluster Module.
17978: means the immobilizer didn't allow the car to start at least once; probably related to the item above. I wouldn't worry about these 2.

Last 2 are the ESS. This is the sensor that tells the ECU how fast the engine is turning. If this fails, the car will simply not start. Again, intermittent and probably not causing the MIL.

Quick version; when was the last time you changed the coilpacks?

P1571 - Left Eng. Mount Solenoid Valve Short to B+; not sure about this one.
P1577 - Right Eng. Mount Solenoid Valve Open circuit; not sure about this one.
P0300 - Cyl 1 Misfire
P0304 - Cyl 4 Misfire
P0153 - O2 Sensor. I would simply clear this after you address the misfire. It is probably a sympathetic fault.
