glad to be alive.........
So I am driving to work as usual taking the Pa turnpike a 3 lane highway this morning, right when I am 1/2 mile away from my exit
i'm going 55 mph in the right lane, then a scene from only the movies happend 20 feet in front of my eyes, this tractor trailers driving in the middle lande starts jack knifinng in front of me,
it was like it was happening in slow motion
I think it was ice or someone cut him off
the rig rails a pickup truck that hits the median head on, the passengers were fine thank goodness fr airbags
and two cars in front of me get railed by this truck also, there is tractor trailer behind me that in trying to brake the hits a car behind me,
it was pretty bad
that goodness i know how to drive defensively, my a4 was spared after alot of swerving, and flying debris
i went right into the shoulder and then parked
called 911 shocked that i could have been killed,
i think it should be a law that tractor trailers should be in the right hand lane only
like they do in CAlifornia, PA stinks
everyone be safe in your A4 out there,

trucks in right lane only
> i think it should be a law that tractor
> trailers should be in the right hand lane only
I disagree. On roads with three or more lanes it is often safer if the trucks drive in the middle lanes. Since they cannot change speed as quickly as smaller vehicles, it is safer if they don't have to deal with merging traffic from the right.
In an ideal world, everyone would know how to speed up to highway speed before merging in, but reality tells us that many people are idiots who can't or won't do that. This is why most truckers prefer to move into the second-to-right lane whenever possible. Hell, most people in your situation wouldn't have noticed what was happening behind them until well after they were stopped. Your alertness and good scanning/driving skills kept you safe today. Congratulations.
Finally, I do believe that a no-left-lane rule is great. I'd just like to let truckers out of the right lane as well.

There always seems to be something bad happening on I-76... (more)
I was in a similar situation a year ago, only it was a car doing a 360 spin on I-76 going into Philly (the portion that is not part of the turnpike). He was two cars in front of me and took out about two cars near him. Like all the idiots on that road, he tried cutting someone off in the left lane and misjudged. He clipped them before losing control, spinning, and flipping over off the median. I was lucky the brakes on my old GTI worked!
At least there are fewer ghetto cruisers trying to drive in the shoulder to get past traffic these days...

Sucks. My Shure-kill Expressway SUV story...
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/27563/lincon.jpg"></center><p>
The Turnpike and Schukill are both rt. 76, a dangerous area. I was crusin' in my Beemer in the left of 3 lanes, toward the city at the Cityline exit, I heard an axle-grind of an SUV whose driver was busy on a cell or boom-box- he caught the concrete retaining wall right where it begins and is beveled! It launched the SUV 10-15 feet into the air doing a piroette and coming down on it's side. I saw a few un-restrained passengers fly around and were pressed against the windshield of the sliding vehicle. I thought it was coming down on its wheels and hit the gas instead of the brake in case it shot across traffic. What an idiot, people got hurt. I also saw a hooptie spin completely around appropriately near the zoo. It was totally dry and clear, tha guy went for the exit, changed his mind and spun. No trucks in left lane is a must on the Shure-kill.

centre one is better
many highways in NJ forbid trucks in left lane.
a few weeks ago, on Rt.80, i watched in horror as some idiot in astrovan suddenly realised, that he was about to miss his exit ramp. he slammed brakes in front of a trailer. all i saw were plumes of smoke & but somehow the trucker managed to avoid the collision. astrovan just sped off.
idiots are everywhere, in right & in left lanes.
