Default Had an interesting conversation with an Audi mechanic friend ...

For all you chipped rides ... Audi is stepping up the re-flash programming on our cars in an attempt to catch chipped cars. I thought that this was interesting as there a few tuners that have "stock programs" that arent going to get past the re-flash. Ony a few of the tuners have setups that will allow the flash to occur, some tuners have complicated systems that will throw an error during flash programming even when put in "stock mode".

I wont name names but be sure you know what you are getting when you purchase software/hardware for your car if you want to keep your warranty.

Default Why a re-flash? Is AOA proving us with a 190hp program as stock?

Default from what the dealer tech told me, i was under the impression that they are only reflashing if you

show certain symptoms that indicate some fault they had, or some problems that would require a reflash... also you have to sign a waiver before reflash, and if you dont sign it/want it, they cant reflash...

Default Coil replacement requires a software update.

There is a fault in the original software that results in a misfire. They update the software to make the car run better. In the meantime, they have the option of running a check-sum to see if the code in the ecu is stock or not.

Default Exaclty, thanks April. My point was that some chip tuners "stock" programs will be caght ...

Some tuners stock programs are really nothing more than watered down performance programs and those will be caught. Additionally many of the chips with encryption systems will cause the flash from the dealer to fail, clueing them in to your chip.

Default my fault, i thought you said there was another relfash thing going on then from before...

yeah, the chip thing was covered before though, your right, i guess if they try to reflash certain chips or whatever, itll fry the ECU if its not stock...

Default So what about Revo and APR?

Even these can be caught easily? I guess I was under the impression that while these can be found out if one looked hard enough, most dealers wouldn't really know if you had one.
