Is the headlight housing for non-xenon silver or black on Canadian MY05? and it is fogging!
I was checking out my just arrived ultrasport (hasn't gone through PDI yet) and I see that the lighting housing on it is silver. I had thought that the housings are now black for all 2005s, or is that only for the xenon lighting package? VIN # is 05. I would like to know before I accept my car!
Oh... and the housing is fogging? Is this normal?

Re: fogging
I just noticed after about a week of rainy weather, my pass-side halogen, not xenon, casing had condensation in it. I searched the archives, and it seems this is normal due to weather/climate, and that the headlights are not sealed airtight. Rather than blow-drying them, or running the lights, I popped open one of the hatches (after removing air snorkel), and wedged a silica gel packet (the anti-moisture drying agent stuff that says DO not eat)in the base of the housing, wedged in a little pocket, safely away from any bulbs or wires. I hope this isnt some kinda fire/melt hazzard. We shall see if this de-humidifies the casing overnight, and if it is ok for that little thing to stay in there. Maybe I'll take it out if it does the trick. Anybody think this is a bad idea? It is parked for the night, so I can remove it if need be.

at least you didnt eat the silica packet
however iirc those things can only absorb just so much moisture... and only once too iirc.
I typically like to use a household vacuum to suck the moist air out of the headlamp.
remove 2 bulbs and suck the air through the headlamp... should work.

Re: at least you didnt eat the silica packet
Well, the silica packet didn't really do anything. Drove 45 min each way to work toady on lowbeams and there was a little improvement in front of the low lens, but still a rainforest in there. Will try high beams in daylight tomorrow, and probably leave the silica pellets in there. Hopefully they will serve some preventative measure. My trusted service advisor of 3 years said to just drive with the lights on and that should clear it up.
