Default I have 1.8T CVT ... (more)

Well ...
First, forget about quattro or CVT, think of do you want a manual or auto?
Second, you should drive them both again espcially the CVT.

My car is 2003 1.8T CVT, I am happy with except for the CVT lag from 0. Before i bought my car i was thinking just like you CVT or quattro 5sp. each one has good and bad things:
A4 1.8T CVT:
Good: Smoother, faster, better MPG, better $$...
Bad: CVT lag in lunch is very bad ...
A4 1.8T quattro 5sp:
Good: more fun to drive, better handling (quattro), better resale value...
Bad: very havey, high RPM's in freeway ...

Again, drive them both and good luck

Default How olds your car?

when we first got the CVT, we found it to be twitchy, lag, etc etc... but soon we learnt the tranny,. and the tranny learnt us...

Everyso often after the cars babied its thrased to teach it to be more responsive.

Theres no appreciable lag now.

Why bother buying an Audi without quattro?

Default Agreed.. I was able to launch the CVT 1.8T and 3.0 well during test drives (more)

I did find that it sometimes launched faster in manual/tip mode than in full auto mode, but overall, it was more a matter of handling the drive by wire throttle properly (same on Tip or Manual VWs/Audis). If you floor it, the ECU won't give you the expected power. It's best if you get used to giving it firm, but not full throttle, and THEN going up to full.

Also keep in mind that your car has a lot more weight to get moving than his GTi (in reference to your other post). That may be part of why you felt like yours was holding back when compared to his. The laws of physics can be so inconvenient that way.

Do you have the sport package with the 1.8T CVT? Unavailable in Canada.
