Default hood latch release stuck/power steering noise

My power steering started to make a whining sound when turned sharp so I went to pop the hood to check the fluid level and the latch won't pop out of the grill to let me open the hood. I tried to pull it out but it won't seem to budge.

Any suggestions on how to get her open?

My car is under warranty but I'd like to avoid going to the dealer.

TIA

Default I would take the car to the dealer for the power steering

My car is off warranty, and making the noise. One shop did a power steering flush and found out that part of the noise was due to one of the shops I took it too added power steering fluid instead of whatever audi uses (i think mineral oil or something). If it's under warranty, I would just go to the dealer. I've heard of cases where the power steering pump had to be replaced.

I was able to grab the back part of the latch and pop it through the grill after my car warmed up. It was bitch to pull out and I bruised my fingers on the grill when it finally popped.

Anyways, after I got the hood opened I checked the steering fluid level and it was pretty well below the low line. I filled her up over the max line and now the noise is gone. It smelt like it was burning fluid, and when I bought the car about 6 weeks ago it was topped off. Should I be worried?

btw my warranty is a non-audi extended warranty so I can choose where to have it fixed.

Default Call ahead and make sure your warranty covers this

aftermarket 3rd party warranties sometimes get vague about what is covered. Then again, so does Audi

Why did you overfill? You said you filled it "up over the max line". Power steering fluid loss usually creates a pretty irritating noise so since you filled it and it stopped you've pretty much for that covered.

Did you check for any hose leaks?

yeah, I didn't overfill it, I just meant that I filled it up, so it was just covering the line on the dipstick, not screwed in.

My warranty is pretty good, it's basically bumper to bumper.

Default well

I had the little hook thing break so need new one. I couldn't pop the hood.
I have whinning noise now. You prob need more power steering fluid. Don't let it run to low! It cost a lot!
I have a leak in my steering rack which is why I've been loosing fluid.
