I have never owned an Audi before and I do not know if the tip works this way but...the coolest thing about my car is the engine breaking. When I am drving down a hill/mountain and need to break the RPM's kick up and there is engine breaking along with my breaks. I have never heard of this before on a car..maybe I'm just in a bubble?

Using engine braking to slow down is most common on manuals, but I've seen more and more people doing it on automatics, and I read the CVT does a good job as well.

I've always believed that the brakes are for braking - I'll downshift when necessary, but not really when coming to a full stop. It can be harder on the drivetrain to downshift in a situation like that (though not sure if is with CVT). Brakes are relatively cheap - use them.

...and of course, with CVT, you have to be in tip mode to do it, but auto mode is the most efficient and probably the most used anyway.

When you are going down a downgrade in auto mode and use your breaks...the car will help you by engine breaking as well.
