This might be funny but everyone who consider of BMW must see (Vancouver)
As all driver in Vancouver area know that few hours ago has a sudden snow
and that time I was driving back to burnaby from richmond
and I see a 320i and a 330i skid so badly even driving uphill
and the most funny is a last generation S320 cannot even move a bit
also i saw some 18" wheel guy stuck so badly in boundary
and even some U.S. made (i don't know what band are they) 4 wheel drive cannot go smoothly on uphill (on parker from boundary to willingdon in burnaby)
audi......of course no problem
i saw one audi going so smoooth
although i was driving my gf's civic coupe (because she too scare to drive on snow) it is much better than those BMW and M-Benz
that makes me and gf laugh...
Just share my experience
and of course the one who still deciding rather BMW or audi...
I think they know the answer now

Yes the quattro system is the leader of the pack but you should be opened minded to the competition

Just so you know where I'm coming from, 2 people in my family have Audi Quattro's (an A4 & an Allroad (see pic) so I'm not against Audi's but variety is the spice of life.
Also, I drive a Bimmer so I gotta defend my car

Mostly poor tire choices...
In a rwd car you really need to have snow tires to get moving. Even with an AWD drive car you should have snows because AWD isn't going to help you stop or turn better (well maybe a little bit) in slippery conditions. While I love Audis and the quattro system, I don't understand the attitude of many AWD drive owners who think they're invincible in the snow. That's a very dangerous attitude. I think quattro is a great performance enhancement on dry surfaces and for providing extra grip in low traction, low speed situations-- but not for driving fast in bad conditions.
I know you didnt say anything about this-- but you just got me thinking about this "quattro attitude" .

FYI
In resent tests here in Sweden, they tested the A4 Quattro against BMW 325iX, Jaguar Xtype 2.5 and the Volvo S60 AWD. The Volvo and Audi where the best wintercars no doubt, the Jaguar and BMW didnt have a chance! The Volvo won the test because its a cheaper car!
In an other test they tested the A4 avant Vs. the new Lexus Is300 sportswaggon, and the A4 won, Im glad to say!

Vancouver Streets were really, really slick...!
I was coming back to Seattle Sunday morning (A4 3.0 QT6 Standard Suspension, All-Weather tires) and my EPS light was on a lot. At stop-lights on Beach St., the whole car was sliding down the rain-slope and all 4 tires spinning. I've been to Mt. Rainier and on a lot of other snow, but nothing like Vancouver that morning.
Now, that said, I was getting away from the stop-lights, and the rear-wheel drivers were just trying to park their cars again. Also, it was taking 30 ft. to stop at 20 MPH. First time with QT I ever even thought about having chains.
