Default MPG BT: stoopid poll of the day

I am not necessarily looking for"facts" but opinions too, so what do y'all think?

I installed the winter wheel setup (as pictured) with toyo proxes 4s having previously run strictly the stocker summe dunlop SP9090s and I have noticed my mpgs have declined to just around 25.

I am driving 40 miles each way to work and it is an easy highway cruise. I have begun trying to "baby" it to see what my best gas mileage can be. With the dunlops I was able to get 29 on a good day but it was usually about 27.5

now with the new setup i am struggling to get 26 and often it is about 25.5

Could this in any way be due to having about 8,000 miles on the mobil 1 oil?

Air filter and pre-filter are clean and the NGKs are relatively new.

all opinions welcome

also, someone suggested a Z rated tire is not appropriate for winter. . . i sure hope that's not true. . .

Default could be...clean oil will definitly improve mileage

I notice some gains in mpg's after I have the oil changed. it's best to do it every 5k, so it certainly wouldnt hurt for you to do it.

might be time for an oil change. But i also would not run Z-Rated summer tires in the snow.

Default I still believe if you are going to have 2 sets of tires and wheels

Mind as well have a good summer tire and a good winter tire. I would not consider a Toyo Proxy 4 All Season with no real syping a good winter choice. It is not really designed for snow/ice, and getting the M&S rating is not that difficult for a tire manufactuer. The Dunlop M3 or M2 like you (akula-ssh) chose is a more appropriate choice for a nice high performance winter tire. Then again it isn't my car, and i have already put my winter tires on since we have snow in the mtns..

Default I saw a car with that APR badge here in Saratoga

Default My best guess is weight ... did you weigh your summer wheels/tires vs your winter set up

Heavier wheels and tires will not only cause lower MPG but will also effect acceleration and handling ... do you notice any of these differences ?

Default It's the high rolling resistance of the Toyo tires....

I had OEM Michelin MXM4s on my 3.0QM and averaged 23 mpg, switched to Bridgestone LS-Hs and went down to 21 mpg, threw away the LS-Hs after 9K miles as they sucked! Put Avon M550s and mileage went up to 24mpg. Tires will do this my friend!

M550s are great tires for the 3.0QM...
