Default offset and clearence

heres the dilemma, Dropped my car off last night to have my Neuspeed sport springs and Koni shocks installed. My shop has a great rep for dealing with high end cars. The counter guy looks out the window and says, we arent going to be able to do your suspension with those wheels ( I have 18's with an offset of 40 and 235 rubber) He says those will rub big time. So we talk and the owner comes out, says he thinks it will be close. Well we go back and forth for 45 minutes. I tell them forget it. Then the owners says he thinks it will work, we talk about the drop (only being an inch and a half). I know offset plays a big roll in how much clearance you'll get when the wheel travels up and down. So you guys with 40 offsets, have you had troubles?

Default How wide are your wheels? 8", 8.5"? 40mm offset is close...

You may want to consider getting 5 or 10mm spacers to make up the difference. With a 40mm offset, chances are you will rub on the suspension behind the wheel if anything, so a modest spacer would put you back to where you should be.

Here's a link to show you the offset effects of your wheels vs. stock...

<a href="http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html">Wheel Offset Calculator</a>

With a 8" wheel (40mm offset), the clearance behind the wheel would only be 1 mm less than stock. With an 8.5" wheel (40mm offset), the clearance behind the wheel would be 8 mm less than stock. I think you might be ok. Hopefully others with this suspension will chime in with their $.02...

Good luck,

That doesn't sound right. Do you know how wide your wheels are?

Default Ok, using the link I posted, you can determine the effects...

The stock sport package wheels are also 7.5" wide and the offset is 45mm. That means your wheels will only stick out 5mm more than stock, which is not much at all. The Neuspeed sport springs aren't that low (only .75" lower than sport package), so I really think you'll be fine.

BTW, disregard what I said earlier. You will actually have more room (5mm) between the wheel/tire and the strut housing than stock. I was assuming a wider wheel.
