Oil Change
How often do you guy's change your oil? I know the manual says 1 year or 10k miles. Does everyone follow this. I was thinking of using one of those oil suckers and doing my own oil change at 5k miles and waiting to do the filter at 10k. Thanks

do an oil + filter change every 5K, especially with a 1.8T. You need to use synthetic
Check your maintenance interval with Audi and if it is still every 10K, you should go in every 5K and pay for the intermediate oil change.
The 1.8T has an oil sludge problem due to the long maintenance intervals, so frequent changes with good, quality oil are in order.

correction... the longitudinal 1.8T has a oil sludge problem
the transverse 1.8T does not and uses dino oil + smaller filter because it can get away with that thanks to its sump design.

Using oil extractor to pump out the oil once, re-using the filter is a great idea.Filter lasts 30k
30 kilometers/2 years is what the Mann filter says right on it. Oil is relatively cheap, I mean good synthetic like Mobil 1 0w-40 or Syntec 0w-40 is like $4/q. One DIY purge and fill is so freaking easy, it can be done in the middle of winter when the added cold-cranking of new oil is helpfull. For $20 added cost, a mid-filter change of new oil is TOTALLY a no-brainer. I admit, 5000 miles on good oil is overkill, but 10000 is pushing it sometimes. That's when Audi does the free service, so half of that; every 5000 it is! I am settling on 7500 miles on oil, (German Syntec) switching filters every other time for my V6. I have went as long as 6/mo 11k on it before. I cut plenty of filters open and never saw any debris or sludge.
