Oil color doesn't matter..but could it be THIS black after 50 miles?

a followup..
The shop swears this was new oil(and I believe them). I just got this car and now I'm a tad worried that the previous owners didn't change their oil often enough. I guess regular oil changes start with me.

IMO, that oil looks too dark for being recently changed. If it was me, I would do an oil/filter
change as soon as I could to ease my mind and to see if my oil change looks the same after 50 miles. The pic you posted just doesn't look right to me. Another oil/filter change is not gonna break the bank.
If your pic is 1/2 quart, then all the remaining oil looks the same. You're sure its your engine oil and not your tranny oil you drained?

If he can drain 1/2q, he can just drain the whole thing, filter or not. I'd run it 500-1000 mi to...
clean even a lil more. Without knowing what the filter is like, hard to know why the oil is like that.
