Oil Filter Recommendations?
Coming up on my 10k oil/filter change. Since this one is 'on me', any recommendations on filters besides OEM? Any issues with non-OEM filter and warranty, do you think? I'm using Mobil1 currently. TIA...

technically AOA is stating they'll give you the shaft by not using their filter...
specifically their smaller filter if your car came with the smaller one. That being said i'd throw in the big bertha 9(audi pn: 068 511 561B) to add .5 quarts to your oil capacity. I'd then keep an original filter on hand in the event of an unrelated engine failure. Cheers! Mike

I've been using the Mecca Performance filter for 8 years.....
on my VW/Audi 1.8/t's without any issues. The only problem I can see, is that I think this filter holds less capacity then the OEM filter. And now with the oil filter size increased, it would be much smaller. I use the 4" filter for the 1.8t, and they also have a 6" for the 3.0L (VR6 VW), but not sure if that 6" is applicable for the 1.8t.
BTW; there's no need to change every 5K miles if you're using a high quality synth. Every 10K miles is a breeze.

Did they actually write somewhere that you HAVE to use their filter?
I'm just curious, because it's illegal, AFAIK.
Or are they using the line that if they're providing the maintenance for free, then they can strictly specify which maint. parts are to be used? That may be allowed.

I was wondering the same thing as far as the warranty goes...
I posted a few days ago and a few people told me not to use another filter because AOA could void my warranty. I plan on changing my oil at 15k with Mobil 1 0W-40, but not sure which filter. I've got a 3.0 and have been told that the Bosch #3500 works.
I'm not sure which Mobil 1 oil filter works though. Let me know if you find out!

Since you're the oil changing expert on here...
Do you know which Mobil 1 oil filter works on the 3.0? I had AutoZone cross-reference filters and they came up with the M1-203, which is much smaller than the Bosch #3500. Also, a tard at Mobil 1 said that they don't make one to fit the 3.0.
Also, do you have any input as far as using a non-OEM filter and warranty issues?
