problem starting

if i wait till all the idiot lights go out it will stay running fine.its been doing it since i bought it a month ago.wonder if its a low batt in the key or a fuel pump prob? havent got the fuel pump recall done yet.

Mileage on your car? have you done maintenance items like spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, etc?
Your problem could easily be the fuel filter is jsut plugged up and/or your pump is weak and you have low fuel pressure.
I've noticed of late that alot of us (and I'm the poster boy here) tend to get lazy about maintenance because so many cars these days have 100,000 mile everything it seems...spark plugs, coolant intervals, etc. The A4 is NOT one of hese cars. Plugs should be changed every 40k or so, ditto the fuel filter and other maintenance items.
Start simple and make sure you replace regular stuff that wears out anyways...might fix your problem and save yourself expensive trips to the shop.

Figured it out. Got a new ignition switch that includes the immoblizer coil just
order it with your vin and it will come matched to your keys. Took 30min to install.
And no need to reprogram anything

Good call j753301, that is good to know and will keep that in mind next time. In my case, I replaced the battery (with Audi stock) and my minor starting issues resolved. Just an FYI in case all else fails.

Mine is doing the same thing, will start and immediately die. My immobilizer light on the dash will blink when this happens. I've now figured out if I put the key in and turn on but don't crank and it blinks I take the key out and put back in, once it doesn't blink it will start right up. j753301, where did you get your new ignition switch and immobilizer coil from? Also, how much did it run you?
