Default Rear Brake Input...

My mechanic called and said that the rear brakes have about 2-3 weeks left, and thats if I don't do a lot of driving. I did some research, and it seems like most guys just say that the rears should be left alone (i.e. no BBK). I figure I'll run with the Hawk HPS pads in the rear as it seems like a lot of you guys have them and like them. I'm not sure what to do with the rear brakes themselves. I looked on ECS's website and they have slotted rear and slotted and cross drilled rears. I'm leaning towards the slotted only, as if the C/D are not forged then they can crack fairly easily. Slotted only are $119.95, I think a piece, but its not specified. What do you guys think?

The other thing I was wondering is if it is worth upgrading to Stainless Steel brake lines now, or should I wait until the fronts go out as well? The other thing I was wondering is if it is worth upgrading to the 255 rear rotor as opposed to the 245. I'm not even sure if this is possible, but I'm jsut throwing the idea out there. When my front's go, I'll probably do the 3.0 upgrade, as I need to keep my 16's for winter tires. Any input at all that you guys have is welcomed. TIA

Default I'd use the Hawks and call it good. If the rotors aren't ready to change, you can wait.

I have S4 front brakes, but I left the rears as is. Going from 245 to 255 is not worth the $ to me, since you need to buy new carriers.

I have slotted front rotors, but my rears are plain. Again, I didn't see the need to do anything special for the rears, and you can't even notice the slotted vs. smooth difference.

As for stainless lines, you can do that now or later. Note that if you just change pads, you won't need to bleed the system. With lines, obviously you do. I'd put the lines in when you are ready to flush the fluid and kill two birds.

Default I'm due for a flush anyway...

Thats one of the reasons the car went in today. But since the rear brakes need replacement, we decided to hold off on the flush. So maybe I should look inot SS lines too.

If you track the car, the lines could be worthwhile. Otherwise, you won't notice a difference

Default Some thoughts...

First, I would not try to do the 255mm upgrade to the rear. My opinion is that the added benefit (if there is any appreciable benefit), is not worth the cost.

Second, I believe that changing the rotors at the same time you change the pads is worthwhile (assuming that you have the original rotors). I put the slotted rotors on my rears, but whether there is benefit is questionable. And yes, the ECS price is for a pair.

Third, if you are going to change to SS lines, do all four corners at the same time, along with the brake fluid change. Pulling the lines will require getting rid of the fluid, so it makes sense to do the fluid change at the same time.

Default A couple questions if you don't mind...

I'm going to stick with the 245 in the rear. From what I've read, you're right, the added cost really doesn't justify the extra price.

When I picked the car up yesterday, my mechanic said that both pads and rotors are shot, or at best have 2-3 weeks of light driving left on them. So I think I'm going to do slotted rotors and Hawk HPS pads.

The question comes with the SS lines. The front rotors and pads were new when I bought the car 18k miles ago, or at least thats what the dealership says. When the front brakes do go, I am fairly sure that I will do the 3.0 upgrade in the front. Should I jsut wait until I replace the fronts to do SS lines all around? And, yes, we held off on the brake fluid flush yesterday until the new rears go on.

Sorry for the long response, but thanks for the help.

Default I would wait...

to change your fronts before changing your lines over to SS ones. It really only makes sense (economically) to do all four at the same time, since you will be forced to do a fluid change.
