Default Replace bew front brake pads...

The orange (o) symbol light up with a short beep everytime I started the car... I guess it is time to replace the front pads...right? Do I need some special tool to do the job (DIY)? I have experiences with Japanese cars before but haven't try an Audi yet! Thanks for you input...

Default It's like every other car pretty much.

No special tools, but a $2 C clamp or something similar is good to have to compress the piston. I would also pick up a package of the dark green lube to put on the slider bolts. I forgot the size of the allen wrench you need for those. If you are changing the rotors, I think the carriers are held on by a 17mm. You may need a breaker to get those off if they've been on for a long time.

Default here are a few pics from my wheel bearing job, maybe they can help you...

after removing the wheel there are 2 bolts holding the caliper (sorry, can't remember the size). I used some loosening stuff and a breaker bar.

I used the reset tool for the piston but like Shameless in Chicago mentioned, you could probably use a C-clamp. I know I shouldn't press on the pad directly but I was pressed for time.

I hope this helps.

Default Do Not use a c-clamp to compress the caliper, go to your local

autoparts store and either buy or rent the caliper tool. To buy its about 30 bucks, i think where i bought mine, you pay for it full price and they give you a full refun if you bring it back in a certain amount of time.

C clamp works just fine on the front. Hell, I've used old pads and a hammer stuck between to do it.

Default I suppose that it would have been OK to do the pads but...

the pics were taken on my wheel bearing job so I had to remove the whole thing.

Default Jack, torque wrench and a mallet ought to do it.

Like SiC said, calipers are calipers.
