Default Service Question

I'm a little confused on the servicing. I've had the car serviced yearly. I've now had what they called the 40k mile service even though the car only had 27k miles on it. My question is, now that it is out of warranty how often should I be servicing it? Should I keep to the yearly and have the 50k service done even though it only had 35k miles on it now or do i wait until i have more mileage? Also, how often are you all changing your oil? Every 5k?

Default the term "servicing" is usually no more than expensive oil changes

just change the oil every 5k with good synthetic, air filter once a year, cabin filter every 2 years and fuel filter every 2-3 years or 30k miles whatever.

transmission/diff oil should be changed every 2-3 years and brakes bled every 2 years. these are not in the "service" interval.

Default Many maintainence requirements are mileage or elapsed time, ...

and the "what ever occures first" rule applies.

For example, oil changes should be no more than every 5000 miles, or 6 months, which ever occurs first. Brake fluid replacement/flush is specified every 2 years, with no milage limit. Cooling system drain and flush, every 30,000 miles or two years, etc. The stated intervals are typical recommedations, and exceed the "official" required maintainence intervals.

Each vehicle should be evaluated for the maintainence suitable according to usage patterns and driving style.

Stop and Go city driving is considered "severe service duty", and general maintainence intervals adjusted accordingly. Not only the engine oil is stressed more, the transmission fluid (If an Auto/Tip trans,) should have the fluid changed and filter changed every 40,000 miles or 3 years, or 20000 miles or every year if severe duty service. Audi does not specify an ATF service requirment, claiming "Filled for Life", that really means the trans fluidfilter does not require changing until the trans fails. Obviosly, changing the fluid and filter on a scheduled basis based on use or time limit, is more realistic, to avoid transmission wear and failure.
