the standard radio in the 02 A4 is the symphony II. the bose upgrade is just a larger, more powerful amp. the head unit in both cases is the same.

True, but...
The Bose system also contains Bose equalization logic which colors the sound. Some find this pleasing, others hate it. I have the Bose myself and can certainly tell the difference between their version of a song and a normally equalized one.

Outside of the US, Concert is standard...
I have the Symphony II system without Bose, and I think it's pretty good. Yesterday I test drove a 3.0 with my friend (I think he's going to get one!) and it had the Bose unit. WOW! What a great stereo system.
It is worth the money to upgrade to the double-DIN Symphony system, but not necessarily to the Bose unit... IMO.

Yup...Bose speakers.
Again, some people swear by Bose. Others (people who've listened to decent equipment) will tell you "No highs no lows, must be Bose"
Overall, the Bose upgrade is a nice system, if you don't plan to upgrade the system beyond stock. If you do, save your $600 and use it towards real gear.

I spent the extra money on the Bose and it was not worth it. This system sounds just OK, not worth the $650 extra.
