Default Snow advice/tire advice

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/61469/hr.jpg"></center><p>It's Sept. Only about two more months until ski season. Can somebody reccommend a good snow tire that also handles well when I'm home in Santa Monica

I travel up to Mammoth twice a month all season long. So, I kind of need the best of both worlds. (traction and handling)

Oh, and affordabiltiy is a factor as well.

You probably want to go with a good all season M/S rather than a flat out snow tire.

Default I put Nokian WRs on my stock sport package wheels. Very happy with them...

Technically, the WR is an all-season tire, so it handles very well. However, it's still able to hold it's own with the best dedicated snow tires.

I've had my car 1 winter with 205/55R16 Dunlop Winter Sport M2's, and 1 winter with 225/45R17 Nokian WR's. Both were great, but I'm happier with the Nokians. I think the size is better suited for my needs also. The 16"s felt very soft in corners and not as capable. With the 17" Nokians, I can drive pretty hard when the roads are clear and still get to where I'm going when they're not.

Default No snow tire will do that. Even H-Rated snow tires become squishy and rough in warm weather.

Best bet is an all-season with good snow traction. I believe Nokian makes a good all-season like this.

I second the WR's. It's exactly what you're looking for.

Default I'm considering the Yokohama AVS winter; made for excellent dry and winter performance

"The AVS Winter is ideal for drivers who don't want to compromise dry road performance or traction in winter snow conditions. With the AVS Winter, owners can be assured their tires will deliver the ride and comfort they expect from their vehicles in the most adverse Canadian weather."

If you do get them, let us know how it goes. I'm planning to get them for driving up and down to/from Whistler/Blackcomb on a weekly basis.

Default Re: Snow advice/tire advice

I am considering the Conti Extreme Contact. Well rated in the snow for an A/S tire.<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR4&amp;url=%2Ftires%2Ftires.jsp%3FtireMak e%3DContinental%26amp%3BtireModel%3DContiExtremeCo ntact%26amp%3BvehicleSearch%3Dtrue%26amp%3Bpartnum %3D345WR7CEC%26amp%3BfromCompare1%3Dyes">Tire Rack</a></li>

Default I got in on a group-buy last fall, through a local shop...

I forget the name of the place, but I can find the email of the guy who set it up if you want. They're not cheap. I think I payed about $560 for all 4 of them, mounted and balanced. Money well spent, though.
