Default Tail light bulb replacement on 2002 A4 Avant

How do I gain access to the inside of the tail light? There is no obvious way to get at the bulbs....

Please help.

Default in the sedan you open the trunk and on the side there is a piece of the carpet

that is shaped like a circle you pop that open with a screwdriver and there is one screw in there...take it out and then you open the taillight like a door. there are two plastic "dowels" that hold the taillight tight on the outside just pivot it out.

Default Re: Tail light bulb replacement on 2002 A4 Avant

Alright....what am I missing? I'm pretty technically savvy and mechanically inclined, but before I break something...

I have loosened the screw behind the little plug and then it gets to a point where it won't come out anymore and the tail light still won't budge. The screw just turns with some resistance but never comes all the way out. Is it not supposed to some all the way out or is it somehow stuck?????

Any help is appreciated.

Default Yes, remove the screw, use a magnet or a pickup grabber tool....m

Then, gently pivot the housing toward the outside, the rubber part will allow this, on the forward edge, there are two pins, lift the forward edge away from the body, then the housing will move to the rear. Next, gently push the tabs holding the lamp carrier and remove the carrier from the housing to access the bulbs.

Remove screw - 1 - .
Swivel rear light outwards, and at the same time disengage retaining pins from body.
Disconnect electrical connection at bulb carrier
