surprised to hear that the A4 got a better gear box rating than the bimmer (more)
Especially considering that the A4 uses a linkage (or is it cables?) and the bimmer is direct. I did test drive a 330ci before I got my A4 and the shifting felt pretty decent.
I'm surprised audi did so well w/ the new A4. Drove a friends 01 and I think the 02 is a nice improvement. His felt a lot more sticky, and stiff, little more rubbery too.

"It's a fair and square victory for the Audi"-NOT ANY MORE!!!
BMW no longer sell the 318i with the 1.9L engine and have updated this model to a 2.0L engine which now has 143bhp of power vs 130 for the Audi.
I have driven the BMW and the engine sounds and feels a lot better than the 2.0L Audi unit. The article presented is out of date and both Top Gear and Auto Express now give the win to the BMW.

All 3 of these cars are so close that any little
change in options or std equipment can tip the balance. They're all so close in price/performance/handling/luxury that its almost a toss-up. If you read the article, the Audi won by a very slim margin, and one of the big reasons was the BMW's less powerful engine at the time.
Comparison tests are almost meaningless w/ these 3 unless you personally are shopping for the exact same cars w/ the exact same options. Even then, you might weight price more or less heavily than the magazine does.
