Is there any advantage to this direct port programming chip that revo and soon to be apr have?
Anything that makes them better over a traditional chip being sodered to your ecu? Only thing I can think of is if a dealer cracks open your ecu they won't physically see a chip in there. Anything else?

The dealer will still be able to tell you are chipped
Unless APR provides a way to completely remove the software (and you do it each time you bring the car in for maintenance) the dealer would be able to modify their vag tool to detect it.

Revo claims their chips are undetectable. That's why supposedly your chip can even be -more-
reflashed (if the dealer decides to do it. But isn't a full flash in rare cases?) thereby lessening the worries of it being found out by dealers. I'm certain it'll draw attention, if they can't reflash your chip. That's why REVO let's them reflash, if that's what dealers need to do, so as no to alarm them. Although if they have an idea of what to look for, I'm sure they can find it. But the program is encoded in an unused portion of the chip (at least that's what they say). So a partial reflash will not erase the program.

Actually, if they do a full reflash of your ECU, then you need to go back to REVO dealer and upload
the program again. Because as I understand it, complete reflash will in fact erase your program. Only partial/specific reflash will leave your program intact. But they do this so as not to alarm the dealers.

Yes, no physical evidence that you are chipped. No need to cut into the ECU box. Then at least -m-
you have a fighting chance against the dealer trying to void your warranty (if you go in for a warranty claim). It's kind of hard to say you're not chipped, when they have your ECU box opened with Neuspeed, GIAC, or APR written across your chip (or even if you switched to stock, they can tell because of the socket that's left in place). Plus, I've heard on the VWVortex site, that REVO, as compared to other chips, has a smoother delivery.

Is the software removeable by the customer?
I know they can flash over it, but that doesn't mean the software is undetectable. If it is on the chip (even in an unused portion), then it is detectable.
