Turbo temps...
So I got this Infrared thermometer gun and I've been playing with it to find out how hot my turbo gets.
After a fairly aggressive climb up a tight mountain road, turbo housing read 500 degrees Celcius. Turbo was not glowing hot, but you could really feel the heat coming off it.
After 5 minutes idling, temps had dropped to 340 deg.C. After a few minutes more, temps had stablized to 310 C and stayed there.
After about an hour on the freeway at 100-140 KM/h, then about 5 minutes of sedate driving to cool things down, temps were 385 C.
I'll try and get some time to do a more scientific test. At the moment, it seems the lowest temps you can expect to get is around 300 Celcius. I am chipped, so my turbo is likely quite a bit hotter than stock.
