Weird Fuel Filling Problem!

I've been having a strange problem with trying to fill my gas tank on my '03 A4. When the tank is about 1/8 full....
1. Insert fuel filler nozzle into fuel port/hole
2. Squeeze trigger to fill, and start fuel flow
3. Fuel begins to flow but after about 1/2 gallon, nozzle trips, and fuel starts spurting back out at me. Repeated squeezes of the trigger, results in immediate stop, by mechanism that prevents overflow. At that point, if I slowly retract the nozzle, lots of pressure hisses out of the filler port, past the nozzle, which is partially inserted. If I keep trying to force more fuel in, it ends up on my feet ;-)
The first time this happened, I thought it was a moisture problem - perhaps some frost accumulation blocking a vent? Three days later, and badly needing fuel, it was about 20F, was hoping that the problem would not occur again. Fortunately, that evening, the fuel went into the tank as usual - no sign of problem!
One week later... after lunch yesterday, I stopped at the local Mobil to fill-up, and much to my chagrin, the problem has re-occurred! Fortunately, the vehicle gets pretty good gas mileage, and if needed to, I'd have no problem getting to the dealer, but I'd like to avoid it.
Any ideas as to what may be happening? There are no warning lights, etc to indicate an emissions problem. Can someone tell me if there's a vent valve or something that is blocking the pressure?
Thanks!

Re: Did it happen at different gas stations?
Yup! I thought the same thing - perhaps it was something wrong with the nozzle/pump, so I tried a different station. It's as though the tank gets pressurized and won't let more fuel in. Very strange.

strange....
I was thinking of maybe some sort of vapor lock but that should only happen in really hot weather but since you live in the cold I can't think of anything right now. Dealer visit?
