When is enough ENOUGH?

When is enough ENOUGH?
alrighty....just curious to what everyone thinks.
How much horsepower do you think is enough?
Consider this question for a normal driver. Not someone that does a lot or any racing of any sorts.
150?
200?
250?
300?...
Just wondering.
To answer my question...I think somewhere around 250 is PLENTY. More than I can handle. 200 is already a lot.
Cars with 300 or more or even 400....
why? I can imagine that it's cool to get on a freeway and stomp on the gas and be up at 60-70 in a few seconds...but then you'll just have to hit the brakes unless you like the taste of bumper in your mouth.

Re: When is enough ENOUGH?
My simplistic answer is the amount of horsepower and torque that gets you the performance numbers you want. If you are comfortable with 7 to 8 second 0-60 and 15 to 16 second 1/4 mile, then 200-220 should be adequate for the A4.
But with its added weight from previous models, I would think that 250-260 hp would be the sweet spot for me. That's just me and not everyone else.

The problem is..
weight. You have to include that into the equation when considering what's a decent accelerating car. Not just horsepower should be considered, but probably the ratio; horsepower/weight.
Today's cars are weighing more and more than yesterday's cars, so although the horsepower is increasing, their acceleration is staying about the same for the most part.

Yup ! I would toss out the interior and sandblast away all the sound deadening.
Use lightweight Recaro seats, make the A/C manual ( get rid of as much dash gizmology as possible and put in digital race display ,) ditch getting a sunroof, put in plexiglass side windows with straps to hold them up, gut the bumpers and leave the shells, use 16 or 17 inch lightweight ( less than 20lbs ) wheels, take out the carpeting in the trunk, move the battery to the rear and remove the stereo.
Install a reinforced clutch, revised gear ratios w/6spd, 240hp KO4 upgrade, and get serious brakes.
Of course, the thing is to do it to an Avant and be stealthy about changing the outer appearance.
